Poster Competitionand new for 2009 -- Oral Research Competition
$500 first prize and $250 second prize for each competition. plus One night complimentary lodging for all presenters.
Who is elibible to enter? Trainees from Michigan's training institutions including:
Adult and pediatric cardiology fellows (including all advanced cardiovascular training tracks)
Cardiothoracic surgery fellows
Internal medicine residents performing research in cardiology
Timeline July 15 -- Deadline for Submissions August 17 -- Notification of Acceptance (via email) October 16 -- Competitions
About the Oral Case Competition Ten cases will be selected for presentation based on the case description provided. Cases should involve a difficult diagnosis or illustrate a difficult management dilemma. Cases that demonstrate an uncommon presentation of a common disease are preferable to unusual diseases not usually encountered.Notification of acceptance will be made via email by August 17.Cases will be presented on Friday, Oct. 16 from 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. Presenters will have 15 minutes to present their case as an "unknown" in the following format: Case history, physical, diagnostics, etc. -- 10 minutes Subsequent course/finding/major diagnosis (i.e. the punch line)-- 3 minutes Question and answer period -- time remainingPresentations will be judged by a panel of cardiologists based on general interest, scientific accuracy, uniqueness/difficulty of diagnosis, quality/completeness of supporting data and clarity/style of presentation.The first prize winner will present his/her case during the conference general session on Saturday, Oct. 17.
About the Poster Competition Abstracts will be evaluated by a panel of cardiologists on the basis of originality, clinical interest/importance, scientific content/quality.Ten abstracts* will be accepted for presentation.
Notification of acceptance will be made via email by August 17.The competition will take place on Friday, Oct. 16 Posters must be set up by 3:00. The poster room will be closed from 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. for judges to review the posters. The names of 4 finalists will be posted at 4:30 p.m. Finalists will give short oral presentations and answer judges' questions from 5:15 - 6:00 p.m.The first and second prize winners will be announced during the conference general session on Saturday, Oct. 17.

*Abstracts containing case discussion will NOT be considered for the oral research or poster competitions. Case discussions should be submitted to the Oral Case Competition.
Abstracts presented and/or published at prior scientific meetings within the past twelve months (except previous Michigan Chapter Conferences) will be accepted. Research that has been published as a manuscript will not be accepted.
Submission Instructions Maximum of 2 research abstracts may be submitted (you'll have an option to choose oral, poster or either).Maximum of 2 cases may be submitted.Submissions must be cut and pasted into the case template or abstract template.Click here to access the electronic submission process.Submissions may be edited through July 15 by re-entering the submission process.
